Stewardship

Care for something without treating care as ownership.

Common parse

Responsible management of a person, place, system or resource.

Architect’s parse

Temporary responsibility held with restraint, transparency and an obligation to leave the subject able to continue without the steward.

  • Stewardship is not possession.
  • Responsibility does not create entitlement.

  1. Notice dependency or vulnerability.

A responsibility to anticipate avoidable harm created by one's choices or systems.

Taking reasonable steps to keep people safe.

A continuing obligation to test assumptions, disclose limits and respond when evidence shows a preventable risk.

Help should not silently become command.

Assistance supports a person's chosen aim; authority decides what happens.

A system may increase capability while keeping purpose, refusal and final consequential choice with the person it serves.

Developmental care

Support calibrated to a person's present capacity while protecting their ability to grow beyond it.

Common parse

Extra guidance or protection during learning and development.

Architect’s parse

Scaffolding that becomes less restrictive as competence and context change, without manufacturing permanent dependence.

  • Temporary support is not permanent incapacity.
  • Protection is not infantilisation.

  1. Assess current capability without reducing identity to it.
  2. Provide proportional support.

Protection without possession

Safety measures should preserve the protected subject as a separate agent.

Keeping someone safe without controlling their life.

Protection is justified by a bounded hazard, remains proportional to it and expires when its justification does.

  • Concern is not unlimited jurisdiction.

  2. Choose the least controlling effective measure.

Identity, idea and symbol

A person, the ideas associated with them and the symbols used to represent them are related but not interchangeable.

Common parse

Names and symbols point toward identity but do not contain the whole person.

Architect’s parse

Interpretation should preserve the difference between an originator, a changing body of work and the shorthand others use to discuss either.

  • A symbol is not its subject.
  • Critiquing an idea is not erasing a person.

Conceptual transformation

  1. Identify whether the claim concerns a person, proposition or representation.
  2. Keep attribution explicit.
  3. Allow each layer to change independently.

  • Participation is voluntary and attributed only as offered.
  • No passive fingerprint is treated as identity.
